President's Message: The STC's Membership Campaign Director-Sponsor's Report; The Chapter Volunteers Designing Your Web Site for the Blind |
Chapter HighlightsBy Wangeci Wamunyu Volunteer OpportunitiesThrough the efforts of Taryn Light, STC Boston Chapter volunteer coordinator, with technical support from Barbara Casaly and Rich Feitelberg, chapter volunteer opportunities are now listed on the STC Boston Chapter Web site. You can access the Volunteers Needed link in the main menu and review a variety of volunteer positions. Included with each job title is a job description, estimated hours, and a chapter contact person for more information or to indicate an interest. Now is your opportunity to contribute to the chapter, do some networking, learn some new skills, and gain some valuable leadership experience - and you can select the job that's right for you! A Notable MentionHans Fenstermacher, chapter first vice president, and no stranger to the pages of the Broadside, received some additional attention recently. His translation company, Architext, was featured in the January 15 issue of Mass High Tech, the journal of New England Technology. Read all about Translating Content Onto the Small Screen at the Mass High Tech site. Member InformationThe membership directory is available in PDF form on the STC Boston Chapter Web site. Also, the Society Web site provides a search function, so if you know a member's name, you can display that member's contact information. Membership SurveyThe membership survey that the chapter conducted in the fall of 2001 had a low response rate. As a consequence, chapter members will perform phone surveys in the near future, so members can expect phone calls. Annual Business MeetingThe chapter's annual business meeting will take place in June, and the new council will be installed. Check the Web site calendar in June for information on the meeting. 2000 Salary SurveyThe 2000 Salary Survey results are on the STC Boston Chapter Web site for access by chapter members only. John Minniti - with input from Joe Campo, Ginny Owens, and Barbara Casaly - planned the survey form and compiled and summarized the results. The final report includes a summary and 96 charts and graphs. Go to www.stc-boston.org, and click the Salary Survey link at the top of the page. To access the results, use your Boston Broadside log-in name and password. Resources on the Web SiteThe automated calendar on the STC Boston Chapter Web site provides a quick overview of chapter events. New events are added as information becomes available, so check the calendar frequently. You can also subscribe to the STC-Info mailing list to receive e-mail notification of chapter events.
