Avid Takes Top Honors at Competitions2000 Awards
Banquet
By Craig Austin
The Competitions 2000 STACI Awards Gala Banquet was held in grand style at the Thomson Country Club in Reading, MA, on Tuesday, February 6. The 130-plus mix of judges, entrants, committee members, friends, and other supporters were treated to good food, a lesson or two from "the idiot box," and presentations of the STACI Awards, including both Best of Show awards to Avid Technologies.
We began our evening sampling lavish hors d'oeuvres, then grazed at the huge buffet. Afterward, we were entertained by a humorous presentation on how shows such as "I Love Lucy"
teach us about project management. For instance, Lucy always went to "Plan B" even when she didn't know what "Plan B" was!
Next, the awards were presented in the categories of Technical Art, Online Communications, and Technical Publications. First, the winners of the Honorable Mention and Merit Awards were acknowledged, rotating through the categories. Then the winners of the Excellence and Distinguished awards were presented with certificates and plaques. Winning companies included Autodesk, Avid Technologies, Cahners Publishing Company, CambridgeSoft Corporation, Computer Graphics World, Fujitsu-Nexion, Imaging Automation, Lernout & Hauspie, Lightbridge Inc., Lucent Technologies, Media 100 Inc., Software.com, and Virtual Ink.
Finally, the winners from last year's Best of Show Awards presented the Best of Show honors.
