Registration Help
If you are having trouble with Registration Central, please read
the following troubleshooting tips. If you still have trouble after
trying these steps, please send a message to the STC Boston Competitions Committee.
Can't log in?
When you log in, Registration Central displays a home page with
your information. If you do not get to the home page, please try
the following steps.
Configuring privacy settings
Configure your privacy settings as follows:
- In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options.
- Click the Privacy tab.
- If the privacy setting is Medium-High, High, or Block All Cookies,
change the setting to Medium.
- Try again to log in.
You can reset your privacy settings after you register.
Enabling cookies
Several users have had trouble logging in because their browser
restricts cookies from the Registration Central site. Use the following
procedure to remove Registration Central from your Web browser's
list of restricted sites. Note that this will not work if your privacy
settings are set to block all cookies.
In Internet Explorer browser versions 5 and 6:
- If Registration Central returns you to the log in screen, look
for the privacy icon
at the bottom of your browser window.
- Double-click the icon to open the list of restricted Web sites.
- If 207.87.15.172 displays in the list of restricted Web sites,
right-click the IP address and select "Always accept cookies from
this site" as shown in the following figure.
- If http://www.stcboston.org displays in the list of restricted
Web sites, right-click the IP address and select "Always accept
cookies from this site."
- If http://www.stcboston.org/competitions displays in the list
of restricted Web sites, right-click the IP address and select
"Always accept cookies from this site."
- Close the restricted Web sites window.
- Try accessing your Registration Central account again.
Using the Enter key
On the login page, please click the Log In button instead of pressing
Enter on your keyboard. Likewise, on the home page and other screens,
use the buttons instead of your Enter key.
Enabling scripting
You must enable scripting in your browser for Registration Central
to work.
In Internet Explorer browser versions 5 and 6:
- Select Tools > Internet Options.
- Select the Security tab.
- Verify that the Internet Web content zone is highlighted.
- Click the Custom level button at the bottom of the Internet
Options Window.
- Use the scroll bar to move down to the Scripting Section.
- Under Scripting, select either Enable or Prompt.
- Click OK to close the Security Settings window, then click OK
to close the Internet Options window.
Configuring account information
Please make sure the user name and password you have selected meet
the following criteria:
- Alphanumeric only
- No special characters
- No single quotes
- User name 6-15 characters (not case-sensitive)
- Password 6-10 characters (case-sensitive)
If it's possible that your user name is a duplicate of someone
else's, please select a different name.
Can't connect to PayPal?
If you choose to pay by PayPal, Registration Central automatically
routes you to PayPal after you fill in your entry information and
click the Submit button. In some cases, the PayPal window fails
to open. If this happens to you, we ask that you pay by check. (See
instructions for paying by check on the Entry
Fees page.)
Can't open the attachment to your e-mail
confirmation?
After you fill in your entry information and click Submit, Registration
Central automatically e-mails you a confirmation message with an
attachment. In some cases, the attachment does not open. If this
happens, please do the following:
-
If you are printing one copy of the confirmation to mail with
your check, use the e-mail message instead.
-
If you are printing three copies of the confirmation to mail
with your Technical Publications entry, please copy the pertinent
information from the e-mail into a Word doc or other text file,
and print the required copies from the text file. We need the
following fields:
- Entry #
- Title
- Number of Pages
- Competition
- Category
- Purpose
- Audience
- Notes to Judges
The reason for this step is anonymity. We will send the three
copies to judges along with your entry and do not want your
name included.
